Injury and Illness statistics are staggering. Every year millions of people are tragically killed or permanently disabled due to injury or illness. The World Health Organisation (WHO, 1999) indicates:

> 5.8 Million people die each year from injury
> Every 6 seconds someone in the World dies due to injury
> The Death Toll is equivalent to 80 Commercial Airlines crashes, each day.
> Injuries are the leading cause of death and permanent disability for ages 1-40.

The NHSC sees most of these tragedies as avoidable and is dedicated to the pursuit of prevention strategies.

In response to these staggering statistics the NHSC has developed Health and Safety Fact Sheets dealing with: product, food, child and home health and safety.
